Advocacy

The BDA Advocacy Team is a key part of our organisation that works with all members of the Deaf community. We believe that Advocacy is the best tool to promote equal rights, respect and independence within our community by empowering Deaf people to take control of their own lives and make their own decisions.

The Community Advocacy Team is currently working towards offering every Deaf person advocacy support through a number of partnerships with local councils and authorities, in a bid to try and seek resolutions to any issues that are of concern to them.

Our advocates ensure that Deaf people’s views are understood by others and that they are aware of their rights, either in human or civil rights domains. The advocates also work with Deaf clients to explore and develop options to deal effectively with their situation.

The BDA Advocacy Team is driven by a person-centred approach and is guided by the principle from Action for Advocacy’s Charter that every person should be valued and is not being judged, and ensures that people are respected and not ignored or excluded because of the prejudiced attitudes of other people.
