What's happening BDA news England PIP Meeting with Capita - "Disappointing" Extracted from BDA's Facebook: DISAPPOINTING BUT SHOCKING NEWS - PIP MEETING WITH CAPITA This morning David Buxton, BDA Director of Public Affairs, and Dr Terry Riley OBE, BDA Chair, arrived at the Capita HQ in central London to meet the director to discuss Deaf people concerns over PIP assessments and demand for new VRS service for Deaf PIP claimants to video call Capita. We waited and waited for #BSL interpreters to turn up. One did turn up late but she was a trainee interpreter, her co-worker another trainee interpreter didn't turn up. She was right not to do the assignment. We asked the director why two trainee interpreters were booked. They were booked by a well known BSL interpreting agency who knew BDA will be attending Capita meeting. He will investigate. This is not acceptable and very bad practice for any high level or complex meetings - only qualified registered interpreters should be booked, not two trainee interpreters. We will re-arrange PIP meeting with Capita - still fighting for fairer PIP assessments and also pushing Capita to set up VRS!
