The British Deaf Association is delighted to announce the theme for it’s 125th Congress at Torquay.

We have listened to your feedback, and it is clear that people are not keen to have a Congress with a strong political element for the celebratory event. The theme and programme now reflects this.

Back to Our Future!

As we are celebrating our 125th anniversary, we need as a community to collectively look into the past, to see what we as the BDA have achieved, what has happened in the Deaf community and where are we going next.

Education, how society see us, and how we in the past saw ourselves, has for many of us never given us a feeling of being proud, OF who we are, OF our heritage, culture, language and being a close knit community, and to do this we need to look at the past and really see how far we have come.

We now need to build on the past, look into the future, with a stronger sense of purpose and with a sense of unity.

Congress will give all of us an opportunity to reflect, celebrate and meet friends old and new.
